    Comments for Camp Flying Eagle

    Camp Flying Eagle began in the late 1920's and is still in use today as a camp providing the outdoors to Scouts and visitors as well. It is situated on the Manatee River in the Manatee District of the Southwest Florida Council. The Manatee or "Singing River" provides a backdrop for the amphitheater outside the dining hall, and also provides several water activities. The unique contrast to the busy world is a favorite of many units.

    In honor of the 75th Anniversary year of the oldest Boy Scout Camp in the State of Florida, the Southwest Florida Council will be having a one-day celebration of events to commemorate the long history of the Camp and the thousands of youth that have called the camp their own since 1929.

    Starting at noon on January 15, 2005, all Scouts and Scouters, young and old, are invited to Camp Flying Eagle to walk through camp and time and
    visit with former friends and Scout mates. Opportunities for reuniting with other Eagle Scouts, Wood Badge members, Order of the Arrow
    participants and former Camp Staffers and Scouts will be available throughout the day. Reenactments and historical presentations are planned and special one-time only patches will be available to add to collections. Scout activities will be set up throughout the 185-acre facility for guests to participate in during their tour of the camp including Scouting Skills, Historical Hiking Trail, Shooting Sports, and patch and Scouting paraphernalia displays. Displays will be set up to show the camp as it was in its original state and how the Council views its progression in the future. Special commemorative patches will be available as well.

    This is an excellent opportunity for your units to invite former Scouts and Scouters that have been involved in the program to join us for the
    festivities and revisit old memories.
