    Comments for Camp Wapello

Is a privately owned camp that used to be the scout camp for Bo-Qui or Wapelo (I was never a Scout there and can't remember which)Council. It sits on Lake Wapelo and has access to the lake. The amenities are dated and repairs would help, but it is a wonderful camp that is now managed by a private foundation dedicated to Scouting.

It used to be the Bo Qui Council. The amenities are better than you describe too.

Camp Wapello was begun in the Southern Iowa Council, which merged with the Tall Corn Area Council in the early 1970's to form the Mid-Iowa Council. Bo Qui was the name of the OA Lodge that begun in Southern Iowa and merged with Mitigwa to form the Mitigwa Lodge. Now, the camp property is privately owned by a corporation of Scouting Leaders and former Scouting Leaders who lease its use back to the Mid-Iowa Council for summer camp during each summer.

Camp Wapello's facilities arent really outdated. Unless your counting the scout masters...(j/k) i've gone to wapello since i was old enough to go to camp and now im on staff. i would recommend Wapello before any other resident camp and the only reason the camp is still running is because of mama gail's and the rest of Wapello preservation board's dedication to giving all of us kids a second home

Camp Wapello is the best camp ever. It is small but it has alot of friendly people there. this camp is used for Golden Eagles Order of the Arrow work weekends and Venture Crew 453's projects.
I work for staff there this last summer and this is nothing wrong with the camp the builds are old but all the money the counicl gets goes to mitigwa and we have to have people come do work for free.

Camp Wapello has a great history in scouting and it is wonderful that the preservation board has manitained the camp. Keep up all the good work I have many memories there as a youth and adult in Scouting.

I am the chairperson and one of the famous 5 that incoporated CWPG. Yes,we are a primitive camp but far from needy. Camp Wapello has passed National inspection each year. The improvements to Camp Wapello are to long to lisit here. Mission statement- it is the mission of CWPG to provide a permanment camp setting to serve as an outdoor laboratory for youth of Southern Iowa to develop mental, physical, and moral skill provided to them through recognized youth agenices. CWPG does not receive any state, federal or United Way funds but only rents and donations. Come see us. Lets talk and I will show you what every summer camp should be. 2007 was the 75th anniversery for Camp Wapello.
