Best camp program in Washington State. Great Cope,First Class Emphasis and many outpost activities. Also has seperate High Adventure Program in the Olympic Mtns. including Mtn. bikes, climbing, backpacking and kayaks.

Whatever happened to Ranger Nick? I used to really enjoy talking to him. He was well versed in scout skills, outdoor living and life, in general. Besides that he was "a fun-guy". I don't think there is another Ranger in the history of Camp Hohobas who made it fun to go to camp for the summer.

This Camp offers the best program in Washington State. The facilities are top notch. The open program they offer is a great asset to boys. I think that in the next few years Camp Hahobas will be a well known name in the Western Region of the Boy Scouts of America.

Camp Hahobas is one of the best summer camp I have ever been to. The boys really enjoyed there stay, and became really aquainted with the staff. It was a great experience having females on staff, and I hope that the camp continues this. They brought higher camp spirit, and I haven't seen the boys earn so many merit badges at one time in my life! Also, the view is gorgeous and you can't beat the newly improved cope course! Camp Hahobas was great and we intend to participate at next years summer camp.

This camp is horrible. The water front staff is not trained to do their jobs responsibly. A lot of thought need to go into their food. This camp needs help.

A lot of activities offered. The food is pretty gross. The area is gorgeous, though, and the air is fresh and clean.

Great camp. The staff is well trained and care for the camp. In fact, this year they didn't receive a single complaint against them.

Comment on the 2007 camp at Hahobas. We attended the only week it rained - and it rained!! Staff felt the mood and amplified it. The waterfront virtually shut down - so scouts received partials with no program to fill in, as the troop adults did their best to try and fill in to keep the boys busy. The dining experience was not all that great - lacking reasonable portions - 2-3 tater tots per person! The layout of the camp, as it currently sits, allows for the placing of several troops in campsites over a mile from the dining facility (which was mainly an outside environment), making the monitoring of 12 boys very difficult for three adults at the program areas. With the poor weather (understand this is not the camp's fault), staff, food, and waterfront we experienced at this camp, we actually can claim this camp contributed to at least one scout leaving the program - with a second former scout informing that his Hahobas experience was a contributing factor to his leaving the troop.

Hahobas is a very well run camp. It has a very capable, accessable, and responsive staff. The camp director and ranger, as well as all other staff members, make themselves very accessable to anyone who wants to talk to them. Any suggestions or complaints that you have will be taken to heart, and changes, if necessary, will be made immedeatly.
The TTFC program, called the Pathfinder Program at Hahobas, is top notch. The area is actually spread out over a large piece of land, with each part of the area designated for a certain skill. For example, there is a model campsite where camping requirements are completed, an orienteering area, a knot tying corral where the staff are on the inside (so they're in the middle), teaching the scouts one-on-one on the outside, and one area where all the talking requirments are completed. In addition, the area is located centrally, being near all of the other program areas, so when they do have to go outside the area (for example, to complete swimming requirements), they do not have to go far at all.
Several outposts occur on Thursday nights. In addition to the usual Wilderness Survival outpost, there was a canoeing outpost, an outpost where scouts were able to complete the requirement of an emergency drill for E. Prep. merit badge, a nature outpost, and a mountain man outpost.

The camp also sports a high quality COPE Course, with many high and low cope events, including a rock wall, zipline, traverse wires, and the swinging log!

There are plans to open up a saltwater program next year (2009) on the Hood Canal.

Overall it is a great camp!

Our Troop attended Camp Hahobas in the summer of 2007 and swore we would NEVER return. It was horrible. The food, staff, TTFC, waterfront, archery & rifle, etc was the worst. Well, never say never. Due to unforeseen events our Troop's first choice for summer camp in 2009 fell through and went with our 2nd choice, Camp Hahobas. I cringed, but it was their choice. All I can say is WOW!! This place has done a 180 degree turn around from 2007. AWESOME Staff! AWESOME Activities! AWESOME Program. AWESOME everything! Seriously folks, this is what Summer Camp is all about! Our boys could care less that it was a mile from our camp site to chow. They loved the whole experience!! Thanks STAFF!! You're doing a GREAT job!!

We had a very good experince at hahobas this year. Our boys spent a lot of ther time at the shooting sports Shotgun rifle and archery all instrucors were very helpful and patient with all the boys. The water front was well run with a helpful staff. The blacksmithing area is well equiped and has a close assoiation with the northwest blacksmith assiotion whe helps train the staff. our boys were very happy with the program. As a troop we chose to do our own cooking so we could work on the cooking merit badge. the camp provided ice for our ice chests Im very glad they give us the option to do this with a discount.

CLOSED and up for sale. Our Chief Seattle Troop has been attending Hahobas for many many years... one reason... best merit badge program in the state. Hahobas kept an outstanding staff, top to bottom. Over the past three years I have seen marked improvement in the facilities, which only caused me to want to return again this year. Unfortunately, The Pacific Harbor Council has decided to close 4 of 5 summer camps, including Hahobas. Too bad... programs like this are hard to find.

Camp Hahobas in Tahuya, Washington no longer operates as a Council Camp since 2016. Currently being logged for profit by the Pacific Harbors Council

    (posted on Nov 27,2016)

Dear BSA: The PACIFIC HARBORS COUNCIL, Pierce County, Washington state is making a huge mistake in deciding to shut down Camp Hahobas, possibly for good! Please Do not Permanently Close CAMP HAHOBAS. It is a beautiful place, its' property was largely donated by the Seymours of Tacoma and another family, plus the Boy Scouts themselves. It does not have a schedule for 2016. Shutting and shuttering on February 29, 2016.

    Great News!

While part of the old camp was sold to a nature conservancy a part of the camp remains:

On Monday, February 25, 2019, the Council closed on the sale of a majority of the camp property to the DNR and the Great Peninsula Conservancy, leaving the remaining 122 acres of Camp Hahobas under Council ownership, which will be opened for rustic camping by Scout units in the near future.

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, the Council Executive Board voted unanimously to open the camp for 'Wilderness Camping' starting May 1, 2019.

The remaining camp property includes the rifle and archery ranges, the Bear Bowl, the Nature Lodge, Environmental Science Lodge, Fruitcake Lodge, Handicrafts Lodge, Twana Lodge, U Lake and the Robbins Lake waterfront.

The property purchased by the DNR and Great Peninsula Conservancy will be available for use by Scouts, and has a permanent conservation easement, and will never be commercially developed.
