    Comments for Camp Geiger

Camp Geiger is the best camp ever!

I have been going there for 4 years and Camp Geiger has of the best percentage of returning scouts. Camp Geiger also is one of the only two camps that has the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Camp Geiger is one of the top 10 camps in the nation. Camp Geiger was the birthplace of the popular activity for older scouts, C.O.P.E. If you are looking for a new camp for you're troop to go to you should really consider Camp Geiger. Be one of the few.

Our troop just returned from our first week long camp at Geiger. The Staff, programing, food and facilities were all excellent! We plan to return to Camp Geiger next year and we will continue to go there as long as the our scouts enjoy the program. IT WAS GREAT!

Experienced Camp Geiger from 1987 through 1992. Both sons went through Geiger and all of us are members of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Wonderful programs, excellent staff, care and concern throughout. The Pony Express Council has a gem. I'm sure it hasn't changed in the years we've been gone, but Uncle Sam moved us around and haven't been back. We all miss it and have very fond memories of the good time had there. Just a note on the assertion that Geiger and H. Roe Bartle are the only two Missouri camps with Mic-O-Say - not complete! Camp Arrowhead, Marshfield, MO, has a daughter tribe, the Tribe of Lone Bear, which honors and looks to Mic-O-Say at Bartle as its mother tribe. Princess Lone Bear (daughter of H. Roe Bartle) even visited us during ceremonies last year - what a treat! Knowing that this fine program has reached so far south in Missouri is very exciting; knowing we have Geiger as another alternative for visiting as a Tribesman is great information to have.

Camp Geiger (Pony Express Council, St. Joseph, Missouri). The staff at Geiger was the best I've encountered in 40+ years of Scouting. The entire focus of the camp is on helping scouts advance; but every MB had to be earned, none were given. Excellent food and dining hall. Campfire programs were awesome ... better than some professional theatre productions! Mic-O-Say is what the OA should be.

Camp Geiger opened a new COPE area and tower this year along with an expanded shooting sports area. Last week the camp had scouts and leaders in attendance from Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, and Oklahoma in addition to in-council units from Missouri and Kansas. Outstanding regional camp.

Camp Geiger is continually trying to improve, this year they have created a new Teepee campground called Short Arrow Campground. They have many plans for upgrading and improving the camp to better serve the growing number of scouts coming to it from all over the country. They have some great leadership that are truly dedicated to making sure Camp Geiger will be a top camp for scouts. They have a great new dinning hall, trading post and the shooting sports are first rate. I went there as a youth, and am taking my cub scout son there for his first resident camp, we are both looking forward to many more years of Camp Geiger and her memories.

The camp has now added storm shelters all but two of the campsites, those two will have them added this winter. Each one includes showers and toilets, so folks don't have to go to a central shower or squat over an old stinky outhouse hole. Each has a nice pavilion on top to serve as a wonderful shaded/sheltered meeting place.

Camp Geiger has finished putting in all the storm shelters, and as an added bonus, all of them have flush toilets, and hot/cold showers. This is a fantastic upgrade, no more having the hike half way across camp to take a shower, and half way on the way back you were just as sweaty as when you started. Camp Geiger also has a fantastic selection of merit badges with around 60 in the offering this year, including the brand new Exploration, Archaeology, metal working and so many more. The cost is really quite reasonable too at $262 before April 1st for a youth, Adults are $188. This camp is well worth the effort to attend, as troops from as far away as Texas well attest. In fact they have a group of Brits coming over this summer.
